TriClarity Backwash System
An example of The H2O Group's smart engineering approach is the TriClarity Backwash System. It is located at the Railroad Street Water Treatment Facility operated by the Elk Grove Water Service, in Elk Grove, California.
A key problem the plant was designed to solve was the elimination of iron and manganese from the water. This, however, created a further concern over handling the backwash water used to clear the filters handling the iron and manganese.
Using the traditional approach of sending the backwash water into the sewer was unworkable since it would have overloaded the sewer system. Leaving this problem unsolved would have prevented the treatment plant from being built in it's ideal location.
The resulting patent-pending design is simple, smart, and highly effective. It allows recovery of over 99% of the backwash process water. As an added benefit, it dramatically reduces discharge fees, providing a substantial savings with every month of operation.

"The backwash system is awesome...it has reduced our sewer discharge fees about $50,000 a year. In addition, with the initial fee we had to pay the sewer department, we saved about a quarter million dollars when we built the plant."
